The Hollywood Neighborhood Association is pleased to announce the installation of chessboards to the top of the two outdoor tables currently in place in Harold Kelley Plaza.

We invite you to come over and use the tables to enjoy a spirited game of chess and have something else fun to participate in within our neighborhood.  Please feel free to bring along your own chess pieces or, if you do not have one, we have a set available at the Hollywood Burger Bar for you to borrow.

The old building has been demolished and the site is encased in chain link fence. Bulldozers are currently working on the grading of the land for the foundation.

Halsey is also being repaved along these several blocks and there are flaggers and detour signs up in the area. The sidewalk is closed along this section on the south side of Halsey.

Central NE Neighbors Recycling Fundraiser

Event Location: Madison High School Parking Lot, NE 82nd & Siskiyou

Be good to the environment and dispose of your TV's, computers, DVD and VCR players, printers, electronics (basically anything that plugs in), microwaves, small and large appliances (no cooling units), power tools, cell phones, lamps, Styrofoam, car and household batteries, unbroken fluorescent bulbs, metal and plastic items at the Central NE Neighbors Coalition recycling event!

Fees: TV's and Microwaves -$15.00 each, TV's over 36"- $20.00 each, Computer monitors - $10.00 each, Styrofoam- $2.00 a carload
Electronics and Bulbs - $2.00 each, Household batteries - $1.00/lb
All other electrical and recyclable metal and plastic items -FREE!

A new shop has opened next to Bluefin Sushi on NE 42nd and Broadway: Hollywood Cycling Bicycle Accessories. To fit in the small space, they are selling everything bicycle-related, except bicycles. You can find helmets, locks, lights, tubes, clothing, tools, etc.

The shop has taken over in the location that had recently been May's Chocolates, Gifts, and Cards (which had only been open since early this year). In keeping with Portland's bicycling popularity, this shop might have a better chance of lasting longer in this location. It is near Trader Joes and a major transportation hub, so it seems like a good fit.

Well, that sign posted on the front door saying it would re-open in the summer has been taken down and a new for lease sign is up. The management team for the Rock and Roll Cafe must not have been able to secure the funding it needed to re-open as Mark Lindsay's Rock & Roll Cafe.
